$700: Can Apple beat Digital Cube’s UMPC in price and performance?
There have been a handful of rumors circulating about Apple re-entering the subnotebook market — and many of the armchair engineers are spouting off that Apple would have to use the ‘version of MacOS X’ found on their as-yet unreleased phone.
But most people who believe the rumors are discounting the idea that a ‘super-phone’ would be likely; more practically, it would be as capable as the current MacBook with several hardware components removed for size and power considerations.
Regardless of the guesswork available, there is a new example out there of a handheld running a full copy of Windows XP that sets the bar at a whole new level… Digital Cube’s ‘i-Station G43′ will purportedly sell for only $700!
Via Gizmodo and Engadget: This UMPC runs a full Windows on its 4.3 inch 800-pixel wide screen, 256MB of RAM, and comes with up to 60Gb hard drive, Wi-Fi(g), Bluetooth and a USB Host port. All for only $700, including the XP license — should be available in July.
