Another viral email story about a business owner facing Obamanomics

H/t to GOPMom for this one that I hadn’t seen yet:

DATE: October 27, 2008
TO: All Employees, Office and Shop:
FROM: Your Employer and Co-Worker

It has been requested by a number of you that you be allowed to take a vacation day, sick day or personal day so as to volunteer for service to a presidential campaign on Tuesday, November 4th. I am willing to allow it if you notify me by 3:00pm Friday, October 31. Because I believe in freedom and service, I will not deduct from anyone’s sick, vacation or personal days, if you can provide on letterhead a letter from a Presidential campaign verifying that you put in at least 7 hours of service on November 4th, the same number of hours you would have worked if you were here. Please submit letters to payroll by November 10th.

However, please keep in mind that this company, which employs you, provides education reimbursements and pays for all health insurance premiums for all of you and your families stands to see a significant increase in its tax rates, should a certain candidate win the presidential election. If this should happen, please be aware that two of you will lose your jobs, as I will be forced to hire my three children to replace you, so as to continue to be able to afford to save for and send them to college.

This may seem unfair but I have spent over twenty years building and expanding this business and I have all my personal “wealth” tied up in it. If the business does well, I do well and you do well. If the business fails, I’m left with nothing and you have no job. You have all been admirable and hardworking employees and it will be sad to see two of you go, especially since not one of you has been here less that 6 years. But family is family. I did not work this hard only to see my kids struggle as I did. I know you feel the same way about yours. It will be a difficult decision but should be made easier based on the name at the top of the letterhead you submit for proof of volunteer service.

Like other similar stories floating around the ‘net, this may not be an actual letter from an real business owner; the value of the story is to those voters will not consider how their vote may impact their bottom line, just because — as Obama repeatedly points out — most people don’t make enough money to see a direct impact financially.

But it will impact many bosses, business owners, vendors, suppliers, and services that we all depend on every day.

You get what you vote for. Not what you’re promised.
